Candle Family

3D printed plastic, Acrylic rod, LED diode, rechargeable battery. 2024

Just like assorted candle holders around the house are different shapes, sizes, and colours – so are the expansions to my digital candle explorations. Joining the aqua: the slim purple and stout orange.

Switch

3D printed plastic, LED bulb, fabric cord. 2024

On the wall, on the cord, or on the housing – every light has a switch. But what if the light itself is the switch? How would you interact with it to turn it on and off? In this interactive concept, the state of the light and its control mechanism are combined into one, making the act of lighting a space more intuitive and engaging.

Tower

Copper, 3D printed plastic, LED bulb, fabric cord. 2023

Further exploration into the warmth of copper. This evolution of an earlier light is focused on personalisation and versatility of lighting characteristics, featuring two independently positionable spotlights.

Adjustable, 90° vertical & 360° horizontal

Candle

3D printed plastic, Acrylic rod, LED diode, rechargable battery. 2022

Inspired by the then looming winter energy crisis in Europe and the many thoughts of buying fail-safe backup candles, I wanted to explore what a modern digital candle might be like. Safe, portable, rechargeable, bright enough to navigate at house at night. Expanded in 2024 with two new colours and shapes.

Rust

Found steel plates, 3D printed plastic, fabric cord. 2021

Discovered during a hike at Blue Lake near Telluride, Colorado, these rusted plates feature consistent cut corners and years-worth of unique weathered patterns. By placing the cut corners in pairs the negative space created provides a functional notch for the cord (rear-bottom) and an aesthetic notch which reveals the golden glow from inside (front-top).

Frame

Brass, Oak wood, 3D printed plastic, LED bulb, fabric cord. 2021

I designed this light with contrast in mind, two materials – wood and brass – and two curves – top and bottom. The half mirror bulb is hung at eye level, to further emphasize the contrast. My favorite detail is the cord, hidden in a channel in the back of one of the legs.

Stem

Brass, 3D printed plastic, filament bulb, fabric cord. 2018

A quick experiment with my brother’s metal lathe and my 3D printer. This slimness of the custom-made E27 socket allowed for the outer diameter of the brass case to match the size of the visible base of the round filament bulb.

Spire

Copper, 3D printed plastic, filament bulb, fabric cord. 2017

I’ve always been fascinated with the warmth of a copper pipe and how it’s tone feels at one with the glow of a filament bulb. I choose matt black plastic to act as a visual grounding device, keeping the bare metal in-check. Little brother to Tower.
